Peter Murphy – An introduction
Born in London in 1952 Peter Murphy is a self taught artist who has balanced his passion for painting with his career as a Marine Design Engineer, where his grounding as a draftsman gives his compositions the strong foundations on which they are developed. His work has taken him to many countries where he has always found time to mix with local artists and discover new cultures. He paints using watercolours and gouache whilst not being anchored to the more generic styles associated with these media. The essence of his work is in the capturing of the subjects’ feel and first impression. Whether that subject is a simple still life or a landscape, his philosophy is the same, to engage the observer, through his use of colour and composition, in the fleeting moments that were the inspiration of these works. This website underscores Peter’s versatility and vision. It also captures his more recent works and experimental adventures in Acrylics and includes his other passion for photography.
